Know About FreeCycle???

Here is a pretty cool site that my sources in Maryland turned me on to that is pretty much like virtual dumpster diving or cyber bulk pick-up day. (Wahoo!)
Actually, all kidding aside, FreeCycle Network ("changing the world one gift at a time") is a grassroots, entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns.
Their Mission Statement: "Our mission is to build a worldwide gifting movement that reduces waste, saves precious resources & eases the burden on our landfills while enabling our members to benefit from the strength of a larger community."
For local folks there is a Lebanon FreeCycle Group you can join. If you are elsewhere don't dismay. FreeCycle is made up of 4,801 groups with 7,207,000 members across the globe so there is likely one near you. (You could also start a group if you so desired.)
To get in on the Freecycle action you need to join a group. (Membership is free.) Each group has

And just in case you think this is some fly-by-night outfit take a look at their organization chart. This seems a well thought-out, well organized enterprise.
So? What are you waiting for? Go forth and check it out!
Free is GOOD!

Cow Abductions...A Serious Problem! TGIFF!!!!

With all the cows in Pennsylvania we should be vigilant and take a look at some of the solutions on this website (cowabduction.com) to make sure this doesn't happen here!
And what about the Pennsylvania State Farm Show? That just has Orange Threat Level written all over it!

Be sure to watch the video and check out all the info. This just puts a whole new slant on the term "Emergency Preparedness", doesn't it?
Now, where did I put that roll of tin foil??? Enjoy!

AFL PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

How much do you really know about smoke detectors? Think they're all the same and all work pretty much the same? Well, they're not and they don't. I know I never thought much about it until my brother called to tell me that he was awakened in the middle of the night to a house FULL of smoke from a malfunctioning wood stove. Guess what? The smoke alarms (which were in good working order) never went off. He told me to go check out the Barre City (VT) Fire Department's website and take a look at their smoke detector videos.
Who knew that there are photoelectric and ionization smoke detectors? Who also knew that the ionization detectors react 20 to 30 minutes slower than the photoelectric ones when exposed to a smoldering fire? Most require an actual flame to set off the alarm. That's a long time to be exposed to disorienting & increasingly deadly fumes.
Check it out for yourself and make sure that you and your family have the right early warning protection. There's a lot of information on this site. Here is the link: http://barrecityfire.org/smoke.html
