Here is a fun app that mimics the Polaroid instant cameras of ye olden days.......remember them? Now you can create your own instant Polaroid (sort of) pics and get a real slice of retro to boot! (It's free, too!)
Well, Peeps, it's another "Fun Friday" and what could be more useful (or amusing) in these stressful times with the amount of drama going on just about everywhere you turn?
If you like word games (and what bibliophile doesn't?) you might want to skip over this post if managing your time is a personal issue.
Over the weekend I found Babble which is an online version of the game known as Boggle. Babble, however, is played against the entire Net in 24 hour rounds. You must register to play but it is free. FYI: You can upgrade to Pro for a minimal price if you really get hooked.
With each grid you are given the number of words possible plus how many 4 letter (the minimum) & up words there are plus how many times each letter in the grid is used to start a word.
Sounds fairly simple? Wrong! This is a very challenging game that will make time literally fly by . . . so be warned.
Another very nice aspect of this game is the chat box on the right. Folks from around the globe play this game and are great at giving clues & encouragement.
Snowglobes are quite in keeping with the season and there is nothing like having your own miniature world (complete with blizzard) at your fingertips.
Ever wondered about the history of these sometimes lovely, sometimes tacky curios? Check out what Wikipedia has to say about Snow Globes. You may be surprised.
Then go here: Sony Ericsson Snowglobe where you can make your own little wintry world (you can upload your own photo if you'd like to) , add a message, and send it to friends and family!
Winterbells is a fun little game to play on a winter's day.
Click on the snowflake to get started.
You use your mouse to move.
Click the mouse button to jump
& touch the bells to score.
Birds will double your score.
Sounds simple, right? Good Luck!
This game comes from the Orisinal:Morning Sunshinesite by Ferry Halim (from Fresno, CA) where you can find many other nicely crafted Adobe Flash games with nice art and ambient music. Orisinal: Morning Sunshine has won several awards. Find out more about it here: Orisinal - Wikipedia
For some of us it's never too soon for the white stuff so here is your chance to make your own snowflake, add a message, share it with the world & be notified of any responses you get AND check out the snowflakes that others have created.
SnowDays is the place to go if you love snow because it's where the snow never stops falling!
To make your own snowflake just click on the appropriate tab and follow the directions. (It's merely a matter of clicking and dragging. There's a preview pane, too.)
To view what others have created put your cursor on a falling flake (as of this post there were over 8 million designs).
You can also search for a particular flake using several different fields.
OK, Peeps, what are you waiting for? Let's go play in the snow!
And now, for your juvenile gaming pleasure, we give you: Turkey To Go.
A rather inane kind of game where you collect feathers for your turkey, corn is a bonus, and forks are hazardous! Beware the forks! (Or not....depending on how warped your sense of humor is!)
It's fun. It's simple. It's Friday. What more could you ask for?
Here is how you play:
Change one letter in the four-letter word the computer gives you. The computer will then change one letter in the word you used and so on. You may not reuse words. The first person to use up all possible words wins!
It's always fun to win, but it's so much better to PLAY! (So says Miss Bun!)
Hmmmmm.......where does the week go? Things have been really pretty busy here what with school starting, state budgets stalling ad nauseum, patron use going up and library budgets flatlining. (Who knew there was this much drama in Library Land?)
Not to worry, though! Today we can forget our troubles and play with Create Your Own Flowers which is a cool little app by Ze Frank.
In case you would like to know more about the man and his creative genius click here: Ze Frank. Ok, Peeps, go be creative and don't forget to stop and smell the roses! Enjoy!
While you are there take some time to look at the rest of this unique blog. Find out a little more below:
Art is Fun! is a great little art blog by Thaneeya McArdle that evolved from the many questions she was asked on her personal art website www.thaneeya.com
From the About Page: "On this website, I provide a background and overview of many aspects of art, organized by medium, subject matter, and style. Using mainly my own paintings and drawings as examples, I cover topics such as:
art supplies/materials used
thought process behind the art
actual process of building the artwork
the basic elements that make each piece "work"
Accessible, low key, and passionate are words that work for this site.
This little segment is from the 2009 ALA (American Library Association) Annual Conference in Chicago and features the Fifth Annual Bookcart Drill Team World Championship winners, Oak Park Public Libraryin Oak Park, Illinois
The object of the game is to get the highest score possible in a round.
You do this by making words of the 75 letter tiles dropped onto the screen (one at a time) & the game calculates your points earned per word.
It's important to be quick and accurate because points are taken away for words not in the dictionary (Like misspellings! Woe to the clumsy typist!) and letters not used.
Miss Bun has been enchanted with this game for the past week. She is certain you will like it too!
Enjoy!
P.S. The site claims this game is still in the demo stage but we have not noticed any glitches.
